Does money buy happiness?
This is a question that people often seem to have a very fast and ready answer to, but surely it's the same as any other question in the sense that all shit is subjective!
So what I should really be asking is can money buy ME hapiness? I would have to be sad in the first place for it to be a knockout yes, but money definately makes me HAPPIER!
How does this really connect with Machinima?
Times are changing (PS It's a good thing I'm writing this while I'm sober), and so is Machinima. As the real world takes notice of it, it will IMO no doubt suffer a similar fate as games. Way back in the days of DOOM and the like, it was easier to make a game/mod. There wasn't really the same demand for realism, or perhaps the conventions of simulated realism where somewhat more forgiving. Now u gotta have your ragdoll physics, and your bump mapping and lots of other cocks to suck on. I feel the same thing is happening to Machinima, however I don't see this as a bad thing. What I DO see however, is that we're fast approaching times when a large investment of cash as well as the all important (and often scarce) time would make a blindingly significant differance. Sometimes when working on this project I wonder if I'm insane. Where did I make the mistake of thinking such a thing could be done without the money? Labour of love doesn't even begin to describe the attitude all of us on this team have. We're so passed that we're in a parallel universe. But for danm sure if nothing else... money has the ability to ease the hard times, Machinima or otherwise. Due to what I can't help but think of as anything other than a fat rabbit of highly unlikely circumstances, we've managed to pull off some tricked out stuff. Thankfully Ghostface has been able to (despite his busy shedule) update Binary EGL based on EGL 0.18 beta5, and the differences are astounding to say the very least. Not only have a host of bugs been fixed, the graphics have improved hugely, and the effect on our higher polycount (for engines of this calibar atleast) models is a pleasure to acknowledge each time. There are still 1 or 2 bugs, but its definately slick. I'll for damn sure have some screenshots up soon. No more flat lighting on models, Alleluia!! Now u can really see the details on the models. Almost as though by coincidence, Sky Mawbsta (who now also has a blog) felt it necessary to update some of the main character models. It's a bitch to adjust to those changes, I've said it b4 and it's no lie, but with the new graphical capablities it's definately worth it. I estimate that very shortly after the engine bugs are fixed, we'll be releasing, and of that I am glad.
I don't have shit loads of money to actually find out if I could buy happiness, so I'm pretty lucky I've got reason to be happy as it is.
